Kiianytsia K. Rendering of Ukrainian historical realia in German-language literary translations of the 20th – beginning of the 21st century.

The dissertation thesis is devoted to the analysis of Ukrainian realia words rendering in the German translations of the literary prose. The comprehensive analysis of pragmatic and hermeneutic aspects of Ukrainian historical realia translation was performed. Translation strategies and methods of historical realia rendering in German translations of Ukrainian literary prose were determined. This paper proposes the refined semantic classification of historical realia; defines the factors that influence on historical realia pragmatic potential in the TL translation; discovers the role of the hermeneutic aspect in terms of historical realia interpretation in the literary translation; determines the most adequate methods of Ukrainian historical realia translation, namely: functional equivalent, calque translation, transcription with an explanation, transcription, lexical-semantic substitutions, descriptive translation; studies the systematic character of the historical realia translation strategies and methods used by Ukrainian and foreign translators.
