Sukhodolska A. Social orphanhood in Ukraine: demographic aspects

Object – social orphanhood in Ukraine; goal – development of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the study of social orphanhood, assess its condition and develop recommendations for improving the policy of counteraction to social orphanhood in Ukraine; methods – historical-logical, comparison, questionnaire, absolute, relative and average values, grouping, analysis of dynamics and structural changes, correlation-regression analysis and graphic; novelty – the motivational model of adoption of a non-native child in the family was grounded with the distinction of the main stimuli and the emphasis on the need to expand the levers of state incentives for the creation of patronage families, foster families and family-type orphanages; the scientific and methodological principles of research of the demographic settings of children in residential institutions have been improved, by distinguishing the most important factors influencing them: state policy, social expectations, guidelines, conditions of stay of a child in a family environment and in a residential institution, and also the expected post-natal socialization, which is important for implementation of effective socio-demographic policy, the classification of types of social orphanage has been improved; theoretical and practical results – scientific and methodical approaches to the definition of interrelationships between asocial phenomena (in particular, the prevalence of tuberculosis and drug addiction) and the level of orphanage have been improved; the system of measures for prevention and counteraction to social orphanhood in Ukraine is proposed taking into account international experience and with an emphasis on promoting the creation of patronage and professional foster families in the context of the professional self-realization of foster parents, the directions of ensuring the effective adaptation of social orphans in society with the identification of the following main components are identified: raising the level of psychological readiness for independent life; the formation of ideas about their own family and the upbringing of children; promotion of professional self-determination of orphans; improvement of their living conditions; the formation of orientations for a healthy lifestyle and measures to improve the adaptation of social orphans in society; the results of the research are implemented into an economic practice.
