Essay

The thesis summarizes the research works of Ukrainian and foreign scholars on a metalanguage in general and the metalanguage of the English dystopian novel in particular. The basic peculiarities of the metalanguage of the dystopia have been specificated and studied. The problems of studying the metalanguage in the dystopian novel and, especially, the occasional formations are analyzed. Another problem studied in the research is preserving the metalanguage of the original text in translation. The occasional formations have been systematized by their use in the metalanguage of the dystopian novels; the main groups and ways of formation of the occasionalisms in the original and translated texts have been identified. The ways of rendering phonetic, grammatical, semantic and stylistic aspects and translation strategies for reproduction of metalanguage of the English dystopian novels were defined while making the comparative analysis of the occasional words in the original texts and their Ukrainian, Russian and German translations.
