Object: Everyday life of workers in Ukraine; purpose: comprehensive study of everyday life of workers of ferrous metallurgy enterprises in Ukraine (1950–1960's); methods: general scientific (analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction), concrete historical (genetic historical, problem-chronological, comparative historical, systemic historical, dynamic historical, oral history), interdisciplinary (content analysis, statistical and analytical); the exploitation of the anthropological, microhistorical, complex, systematic, value-oriented and interdisciplinary approaches. The scientific novelty of the obtained results is determined by the subject of the research and consists in the complex and interdisciplinary nature of the study. For the first time: the daily practices of ironworks employees during the 1950s and 1960s have been analyzed; the structure of the family budget of steelworkers is characterized; the possibility of family budget to meet basic needs was determined; the level and quality of life of iron and steel workers have been studied; materials from the holdings of the Central State Archives of Supreme Authorities and Governments of Ukraine, the Central State Archives of Public Organizations of Ukraine, Central State CinePhotoPhono Archives of Ukraine named after H. Pshenychnyi, State Archives of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhya Oblasts, Museum of History of Illyich iron and steel works (Mariupol) have been introduced into scientific discourse. The paper elaborates on the following: labor discipline violations and ironworks staffing problem; housing conditions of ironworks employees; possibility of social and socio-cultural infrastructure to respond to meet the needs of ironworkers. The following points were defined: production conditions at the iron and steel works; religion in the everyday life of steelworkers; cultural activities that ironworks employees indulged into. The practical relevance of the study is determined by the possibility of application of its materials, provisions and conclusions in the process of writing monographs and materials on similar and related topics, teaching history of Ukraine, developing special courses, thorough studying of the history of daily life of the population of Ukraine, designing educational and methodological manuals. Certain provisions of the dissertation can be included in the career development system of teachers and history teachers in order to draw attention to the role of the average person in history. Research materials can also be taken into account in the formulation of state social policy in the industrial regions of the country.
