Essay

Scientific novelty is that the thesis is one of the first researches in the development of environmental issues in Japanese graphic art from classical engraving ukiyo-e to the modern poster. The paper identifies the leading approaches to the development of the relationship between man and nature highlights the substantive and artistic transformations of the relevant genres. The first part of the work provides a detailed description of the scientific literature on Japanese graphics, and identifies the leading approaches to its study, outlines the methods of work as well. The research stresses that the main investigations are focused upon ukiyo-e engraving that is considered the history of genres and the work of their prominent representatives. Content analysis, as a rule, does not go beyond the image-content structure of specific works (series). Thus, this subject matter is a completely new perspective in the study of Japanese graphics, the investigation of which will form new views on the artistic tradition as a whole and its phenomena.
