Voichun O. Formation of civic engagement of university students by means of student self-government

The thesis is devoted to the problem of the formation of civic engagement of university students by means of student self-government. The thesis deals with the content of the basic concepts of ‘activity’, ‘citizenship’, ‘student self-government’; the essence of the concepts of ‘civic engagement of university students’ and ‘formation of civic engagement of university students’ are determined. The criteria (motivational, epistemological, behavioral and creatively developing), indicators and current level of civic activity of university students are determined. The essence and features of functioning of student self-government system of higher education institution are defined; the means of student self-government in formation of civic engagement of university students are specified. Pedagogical conditions for the formation of civic engagement of university students by means of self-government are identified (substantive and methodical support for student tutors’ work, reliance on the student’s internal needs, using modern information and communication technologies, purposefully organizing and conducting soft training skills)and structural and functional model of their effective implementation is described.
