Essay

The object of research is higher education in Ukraine; the subject of research - the process of reforming the system of higher education in Ukraine in the second half of XX - early XXI century; on the basis of a comprehensive historical and pedagogical analysis to identify and characterize the essence, directions of reforming higher education in Ukraine in the second half of XX - early XXI century in the context of Ukraine's integration into the European educational space; general science - analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, abstraction, comparison, generalization, systematization, classification; concrete-scientific - historical-structural; constructive-genetic, chronological; paradigmatic; the scientific novelty of the dissertation is that for the first time: the tendencies and ways of reforming the system of higher education of Ukraine in the second half of the XX - the beginning of the XXI century are comprehensively investigated. The periods of the Soviet era (1953-1991) are singled out; independent Ukraine (1991-2014) and, according to each period, the stages of reforming higher education in Ukraine: reorganization of higher education (50-70s of the twentieth century); modernization in times of instability (80's of the twentieth century); integration of education, science and production (90s of the XX century - 2004); reform processes in the context of European integration (2005-2014).
