Goal dissertation is a comprehensive analysis of the socio-economic and socio-political situation of women in the western regions of the USSR during the study period under the Soviet totalitarian regime. Object of study – socio-economic and socio-political processes in the western regions of the USSR during the mid-1940s – first half of the 1950s. Subject of study – features of the socio-economic and socio-political position of women in the western regions of the Ukrainian SSR (mid-1940s – first half of the 1950s). The methodological principles of the dissertation research are characterized by interdisciplinary connections and are conditioned by the application of a wide range of general scientific principles (historicism, objectivity, scientificity, systematics, anthropologism, multifactoriality). It is determined that the theoretical approach is based on the theoretical and methodological provisions of the dissertation. Methodical tools characterized by the use of general scientific, interdisciplinary and special methods of historical cognition (problem-chronological, historical-typological, historical-biographical, comparative-historical, sociological, institutional, statistical, communicative, method of analogy, quantitative modeling). The complex application of the available means of theoretical and methodological base provides a systematic and holistic study of the place and role of Western Ukrainian women in the socio-political and socio-economic processes of the period under study. Scientific novelty the obtained results are that in the dissertation for the first time the socio-economic and socio-political position of a woman in the western regions of the Ukrainian SSR of the outlined period is integrally and comprehensively analyzed. A number of little-known archival sources have been introduced into scientific use, covering the main directions of the Soviet government’s gender policy in the mid-1940s and the first half of the 1950s. Previously unpublished eyewitness memoirs were used, which provide an opportunity to objectively reproduce the female experience of that time. Strategies for adapting local women to life in the Soviet totalitarian society, forms of protest and practices of interaction with the authorities are clarified. The work deepens the historiographical heritage in the study of the researched problem, its systematization and generalization. The content, main directions of work and peculiarities of activity of women's structures, party and public organizations on the territory of the western regions of the USSR are revealed. The participation of women in the reconstruction processes, the development of the national economy is considered. The ideological and propaganda policy of the Soviet government towards women in the western regions of the USSR in the mid-1940s and the first half of the 1950s is analyzed society. The experience of socially active women who, despite the control and pressure of the Soviet system, were directly involved in solving urgent problems of postwar society is highlighted.
