Essay

The dissertation "Development of Dalton Plan Ideas in schooling of USA, Netherlands, Poland" relies extensively upon comprehensive study of the Dalton Plan content. The presentation includes the analysis of the features of development Dalton Plan ideas in the school systems abroad. Also, it was considered the attempts to implement Dalton Plan into schooling of Ukraine. The prospects of the using Dalton Plan ideas have been determined. The essence of the Dalton Plan is revealed as a combination of individually planned individualized learning, combined with group forms of the organization of the educational process. Having anaalyzed the definitions and the characteristics of the Dalton Plan in the scientific, encyclopedic and pedagogical literature, we concluded that there is no consensus among scholars regarding the essence of the Dalton Plan. The Dalton Plan is considered as the pedagogical technology, the system of education, the form of study and the teaching method. The study presents the content of education according to the Dalton Plan. The Dalton Plan education can be considered as the coherence among: the development of both mental and moral freedom of students; the propagation of independence, initiative, sense of responsibility for the accepted obligations; the search of rational methods of work by a student (during the characteristic distribution of educational material, adapting the pace of learning to his capabilities); the individual recording of work fulfilled by a student. The Dalton Plan model was originated by H. Parkhurst. Its initial theoretical aspects are based on the following. The Dalton Plan is a combination of the classroom learning with an educational process based on three principles. The focus is laid on the trinity of principles: freedom, cooperation and autonomy. The above mentioned principles are combined by one main principle – the principle of humanism. This can be considered as the essence of the Dalton Plan philosophy.
