Essay

The dissertation applies over 3000 units in 15-thousand items of word- and phrase usage to account for the language status of winged words, which are the hypostatic form of contexts adjunction. Being a more or less exact extract from one text, they stabilize their semantic and structural parameters in the process of functioning and are inserted in another text as ready for use items of great expressive force, becoming apparent at least as "one’s own" – "somebody else’s" as a result of association-genetic connection with the primary source. The dissertation outlines the most typical semantic-structural stabilization models of winged names and words in the Russian language. The author reveals the peculiarities of the category of eptonymity that is the main characteristic of winged words, which appears and is fixed as a result of verbal imprinting action. The eptonymity degree is influenced not only by extralinguistic internal and external factors but also by linguistic ones, namely: homonym existence, construction simplicity and usage frequency of the expression that has the structure and vocabulary identical with the winged word. The specific character of winged words is shown in the multi-media version of the dictionary, adequately providing the information about the primary source – a non-verbal text or a text of complicated style (teletext, film script).
