Essay

The dissertation sets out to provide a comprehensive analysis of poetic language in translation. This is the first substantial research work devoted to the comparative typological description of tendencies, trends and schools in English-Ukrainian poetic translation of the late 19th - early 21st centuries. The study is based on Ukrainian translations from English, Irish, and American poetry, including Shakespeare's poetic dramas and sonnets. The research develops the theory of translation as metapoetic ecriture (MPE) and suggests an inductive multi-interpretative model of transla-tion process that embraces and explains a variety of translation strategies considered through their interrelation with individual translators' projects emerging in response to domestic cultural situations.
