Essay

The thesis analyzes theoretical studies of French academics, educational specialists and psychologists little known to the scholarly pedagogical community of Ukraine. Since the 1920 ies-30ies up to the present time these studies, generalizing upon the world's scholarly achievements, have been offering many theoretical insights into the problem of personality self-development, specifically, in the sphere of self-education which are especially topical in the present-day conditions of a drastic increase in scientific knowledge, landslide development of informatization and computerization of educational systems on the level of states and continents. Self-development is viewed as an education technology that performs important social and personalistic functions: general education and professional instruction, general cultural development of individuals, optimal organization of their leisure time, adaptation, amortization, compensation, therapy, and mastering self-education tools. Varieties of self-educationare represented by corresponding models, differential features of which are, as a rule, experiential-professional, scientific, culture logical and similar differentiation and specialization of personality. The models are differentiated according to socio-demographic, spiritual, status, socio-economic, professional, qualificational and other features.
