Methodological approaches to the planetary upbringing of student youth (civilizational, axiological, culturological and synergethic ones) and its theoretical basis: philosophical (Russian cosmism, the concept of steady development, Vernadsky's noosphere teaching, the concept of intercultural dialogue, the concept of world culture), psychological (the intersubject approach to pedagogical activity, the concepts of mentality and mental setup, the features of student age, the concept of cultural identification), pedagogical (pedagogics of non-violence, noosphere pedagogics, cosmic pedagogics, the education for steady development, pedagogics of tolerance, the concept of school of intercultural dialogue, the theory of polycultural education, world culture pedagogics) are looked upon in the dissertation.The essence of planetary upbringing, its functions, its system of principles, basic ways and methods are defined. The university is defined as the main environment for upbringing of the student youth for its being the space for polycultural dialogue, academic freedom and universal knowledge.
