The thesis deals with the problem of professional development of higher education teachers in Great Britain and the USA. On basis of many sources in history, theory and practice of the matter under investigation the socio-historical prerequisites for reforming of the preparing faculty system in Great Britain and the USA are analysed; the main tendencies and peculiarities of the development of higher education teachers in Great Britain and the USA are revealed; the analysis of the British and American educational establishments and institutions which deal with the problem of higher education teachers' preparing and development is given; professional characteristics and standards of higher education teachers in the USA and Great Britain are examined; the basic aspects of their activity are characterized; the peculiarities of the evaluation of British and American higher education teachers' activity are investigated; the contents, forms and methods of preparing future faculty (case study of Master's and Doctoral degrees) are determined; the ways of professional development of higher education teachers in Great Britain and the USA are covered. The results of the research can be useful for the improvement of the Ukrainian preparing and professional development system of higher education faculty.
