Essay

A unique to Ukraine collection of luminescent bacteria from the waters of the Black and Azov Seas has been gathered. Isolated strains were studied and identified by common microbiological and biochemical methods. Obtained collection became the basis for further research aimed at the development of new bioassay methods for biology and medicine. As a result, several new ways have been found for increasing bacteria sensitivity to nonionic and anionic surfactants and biological toxins. With the use of isolated luminescent bacteria strains a series of new diagnostic methods have been developed. Applicability luminescent bacteria biotesting to toxicity monitoring as well as to screening investigation has been shown.
