Essay

The dissertation is based on a wide range of sources and discusses the issues related to the implementation of daily needs of urban and rural population of some regions of Ukraine. The relevance of this topic was in the necessity to explore the institutional capacity of society as a whole and its individual representatives in particular, with a conscious or objective reducing of a regulatory role of a state in economic and social policies. As a main element of everyday life the forms and methods of providing urban residents with food and consumer goods, their living conditions, the state of education, medical, social services were analyzed. As a result, it became possible with historical facts to estimate the capacity of citizens and their communities to become self-sufficient with material goods. The variants of everyday behavior were discovered, the dependence of a choice of behavior model of social status of citizens was determined, the ability of social groups and individuals to survive was described. The main attention in relations between authorities and a society was given to the specifics of governance in crisis conditions. Such phenomenon as a creation of self-protection happening in different regions of Ukraine in years of the Revolution and Civil war in 1917-1920, was a striking proof of the capacity of society to self-organization. Geographically the study covers the Eastern, Southern and Central regions of Ukraine in the period of the National-democratic revolution. Choice was due to the relative dominance of urban lifestyle in these regions, which had a significant dependence on state and social conditions. Chronologically, the dissertation covers the period from 1917 to 1920, i.e. from the beginning of the Revolution until the final establishment of a Soviet power. Chosen time period allowed examining the features of everyday life on the background of the main events of the Revolution and Civil war.
