Essay

The thesis is based on theoretical and methodological principles of a theory of translator's creativity within which three concepts, correlating with different ontologies of translation and dimensions of its creative manifestation, are formulated and elaborated. The translator's creativity is treated as a complex anthropogenic phenomenon of dual nature which refers to (1) the process of rendering language units/texts from one language to another (i.e. translator's creative activity) and to (2) the result of such a rendering (i.e. translation equivalents of language units and translated texts as secondary-autonomous creative works). The translator's creativity is underpinned by a psycho-mental creative impetus to perform a string of operations which jointly determine the divergent character of translation due to such criteria as plurality, diversity, novelty and originality.
