The object is a process of development of national pedagogic thought and school of the second half of XIX - early XX century; the goal is to carry out the integral analysis of P. Kapteryev's didactic conception within the context of the development of national pedagogic thought and school of the second half of XIX - early XX century; methods are general scientific, historical and structural, historical and original, individual biographical, comparative, contrastive-comparative, historically actualizing; the novelty implies the integrally analyzed P. Kapteryev's didactic conception; scientist's opinions concerning the nature of integral pedagogical process were systematized, generalized and characterized; P. Kapteryev's didactic ideas were compared to main principles of teaching theory of representatives of the Ukrainian pedagogic thought and school of the second half of XIX - early XX century; the scientific rationale for stages of development of P. Kapteryev's didactic theory was established; trends of creative use of P. Kapteryev's progressive ideas in didactics of ХХ - ХХІ century were discovered and characterized; results can be used during the following students' course of studies "History of Pedagogics", "General Pedagogics" and "Pedagogical Skills"; the field is pedagogics.
