The thesis that inviting the highly skilled lecturers from Germany, France, Austria since the beginning of the 19th century created the wishful research and educational atmosphere but, at the same time resulted in a whole number of conflicts and misunderstandings is proved. The problems of recruiting students to the University, as well as those of general philosophical and scientific paradigm of curricula of the first half of the 19th century are made clear. It is underlined that at the second stage (1835–1863) the strengthening of administrative impact on professors and a certain autonomy limitation were observed. It is proved that the process of sciences specialization increased the analytical and expert competence of lecturers, improved the professional and pedagogical communication with students by developing their critical thinking. The role of teaching staff in improving functioning of gymnasia and progymnasia, as well as that of substantially improving the quality of lectures, practical classes at the University is defined. The conclusion is drawn about a sufficiently high level of teaching disciplines at the beginning of the 20th century due to the use of innovative methods, complexes of scientific and methodological maintenance
