A conceptual approach is suggested to solving the scientific problem of development of artistically gifted students in schools of aesthetic education, on the junction of the psychology-pedagogical and the aesthetic-art criticism vectors of research. The initial theoretical positions in the study of artistic aptitude are revealed; its content is defined, taking into account the types linked with performance activity - musical, actorish, choreographic ones. The specific character of the educational process in schools of aesthetic education is outlined. The diagnostic procedure for measuring the artistic aptitude of personality has been substantiated (criteria, indices, hypothetic types, grading after levels). Peculiarities of displaying artistic aptitude by students are defined in age dynamics and after artistic types.The conceptual foundations of the educational process of the school of aesthetic education are determined that are based on the idea of creating a specific for artistic educational institutions artistic-educational space. A structural-functional model of the educational process in schools of aesthetic education directed at developing an artistically gifted personality has been elaborated.
