Object - the domestic higher art school educational process in the 20th of the XXth century - the beginning of the XXIst century; the aim - based on the comprehensive retrospective analysis of students' value orientations formation, to systematize the theoretical issues and to generalize the practical achievements, gained at the higher art schools in the 20th of the XXth century - the beginning of the XXIst century, for the creative use of progressive ideas in the modern conditions of the development of the system of the higher art education; methods - historical-pedagogical analysis and synthesis, terminological analysis of special literature, system, comparative, chronological, prognostic; novelty - for the first time, in the domestic history of pedagogy the comprehensive retrospective study of the development of the theory and the practice of the formation of value orientations in the higher art education system of Ukraine within a broad chronological framework (the 20th of the XXth century - the beginning of the XXIst century) is carried out; the theoretical-methodological bases of the research of the problem of the students' value orientations formation at higher art schools, which are based on the combination of methods, are characterized; the contribution of domestic scientists and pedagogues of the 20th of the XXth century - the beginning of the XXIst century to the development of the theoretical foundations of value orientations formation of participants of educational process, which consists in the determination and the grounding of the significance of the studied phenomenon, the principles, the forms and the methods of its implementation in practice of the higher art education, is identified and characterized; the stages and the peculiarities of the students' value orientations formation at domestic higher art schools in the certain chronological framework are scientifically grounded; the main tendencies of the students' value orientations formation in the higher art education system in modern conditions are detected; the socio-political and organizational-pedagogical preconditions of the formation and the development of the system of value orientations of higher art school at different stages of the studied period got the further development; results - theses and findings, formulated during the research of the students' value orientations formation in the higher art education system of Ukraine of the 20th of the XXth century - the beginning of the XXIst century, enable to understand and to analyze the complex processes that occur in the educational process in modern conditions. The scientific study's results actualize the pedagogical achievements of the past, which can cause the increase of the preparation's level of future specialists in the artistic industry; field - pedagogy.
