The study comprehensively analyzes the hero’s historiography in Ukrainian literature and its interpretation in the school textbooks of the ХХ century as a scientific problem, its formation in art works and the domestic pedagogical theory, its interpretation in the school textbooks of the ХХ century, the formation of the personality of the ХХ century in the theory and practice of modern education system in Ukraine.
The research is based on a chronological and historical approach to revealing the historiography of the hero’s image in the process of development of verbal art, the reflection of these changes in Ukrainian literature school textbooks of the ХХ century. The systematic forming conceptual idea of the study is that changes in the interpretation of the hero’s image in the Ukrainian literature school textbooks of the ХХ century took place in accordance with the socio-economic, political and ideological tendencies of each historical period and were a powerful means of upbringing patriotism and personality of a Soviet man. Heroic image in the study is considered as a significant tool for the formation of patriotic features of the individual, which led to the need to determine the effective forms of its study in the lessons of Ukrainian literature.
The scientific novelty of the research we can see in those that first time in the national history of pedagogy: comprehensively and systematically considered the problem of the evolution of the image of the hero in Ukrainian literature and its interpretation in the school textbooks of the ХХ century; on the basis of available literature materials the structure of the heroic in the art works was generalized; the interdisciplinary nature of the study of the evolution of the hero’s image in Ukrainian literature and its interpretation in the school textbooks of the ХХ century was highlighted; adaptation of the methodological tools of history, philosophy, culturology, literary studies, linguistics and other sciences has been made; the stages of formation and development of the image of the hero in the national verbal art were distinguished (hero-gods, demigods – fairy-tale heroes – heroic heroes, heroes of chronicles, legends, insults of Kyivan Rus’s teachings – heroes of dumas, historical songs, legends, Cossack chronicles, knights and guardians, national heroes in the works of classical literature – the image of a patriot-fighter for independence, an intellectual – «the Soviet hero», «the Red Army», «the Communist», the «worker» – the «ordinary», «degenerated» hero of the literary work – contemporary defender of Ukraine’s sovereignty); the main stages of the interpretation of the image of the hero in Ukrainian literature school textbooks of the ХХ century were determined (stage I – imperial era (1900 – 1917); stage II – period of Ukrainian revolution (1917 – 1920); stage III – pre-war, military and post-war period (1920 – 1960), the IV stage – the «epoch of stagnation» (1970 – 1980), the first years of Ukrainian independence (1991 – 1999)); the main reasons that influenced the concept of the hero were found: internal (legal, educational, methodical), personal (level of formation of national consciousness, civic responsibility, social activity), ideological (influence of state ideology, presence of formed political convictions among citizens); the problem of formation of Ukrainian patriot in the state legislative acts, normative legal documents and pedagogical sources of the ХХ century was analyzed; the main stages of formation of educational views on the perfect personality of the ХХІ century and their reflection in normative legal documents of the state were determined; the modern interpretation of the image of the hero in Ukrainian literature school textbooks of the ХХІ century was learned; the ways of introducing the experience of previous generations in the formation of youth patriotism in the ХХІ century have been suggested by means of Ukrainian literature.
The results of the research can be used in the scientific and educational-methodical field of modern education. An analysis of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the image of the hero in Ukrainian literature and its interpretation in the school textbooks of the ХХ century may form the basis for further historical and pedagogical research as well as the methodology of teaching Ukrainian literature at school. The materials of the dissertation work can be used in institutions of higher education in the process of developing educational courses on the history of pedagogy, ethnopedagogy, Ukrainian literature and methods of teaching of Ukrainian literature at school, Ukrainian folklore, mythology, as well as organizing methodological recommendations for patriotic and heroic upbringing of students and pupils.
