Object of the study is the folk pedagogy of the traditional society of the Eastern Slavic peoples; subject of research is the Eastern Slavic pedagogy of the 19th - the first quarter of the 20h century as a holistic phenomenon, its content, forms, methods and means, presented in the ethnographers' researches; purpose of the work - to characterize the Eastern Slavic pedagogy in a holistic and comprehensive way as a multifaceted separate entity, which is an integral part of pedagogical science on the basis of a comprehensive study of the research of the Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Russian ethnographers of the 19th - the first quarter of the 20th century; research methods: general scientific (analysis, synthesis, induction, deduction, generalization, retrospection, comparison) narrative method, historical-structural (structural-system) method, historical-comparative (historical-comparative); scientific novelty and theoretical significance of the results of the research is that for the first time: the Eastern Slavic pedagogy as a multifaceted separate phenomenon has been characterized in a holistic and comprehensive way in the historical and pedagogical research, on the basis of comprehensive study of a large array of diverse ethnographic materials of the Ukrainian, Belarusian, and Russian researchers of the 19th - first quarter of the 20th century; features of the folk philosophy in the perception of a child: attitude to the birth of a child, perception of children with mental and physical disabilities, mechanisms of orphans support (individual and collective adoption) have been revealed; processes of children's and young people's upbringing have been systematically characterized, taking into account gender-age stratification of the traditional Eastern Slavic society.
