The dissertation focuses on the topical issue of conducting and choral school in Ukraine in the 20th - early 21st centuries. Strategies of general and special art education and new approaches to the modern content of higher pedagogical art education are becoming the dominant factors of teaching artistic disciplines. Nowadays, the problem of history and theory of national conducting and choral education and its higher manifestation – conducting and choral schools – attracts the attention of specialists in various fields of the Humanities. The issue of the theory and practice of conducting and choral school in Ukraine in the 20th - early 21st centuries, taking into account the changes that took place in music culture and art education during this period, is of great interest.
The aim of the research is to present and generalize the theory and practice of Lviv, Odessa, Kyiv, Kharkiv conducting and choral schools, which form a heterogeneous ambivalent systemic integrity of the phenomenon of conducting and choral schools in Ukraine in the 20th - early 21st centuries.
The periodization of the Ukrainian conducting and choral school in the context of the history of musical and educational processes is substantiated, two main periods are distinguished, each of which is also divided into two stages. The first period (20th - early 21st centuries) is characterized by the emergence of Ukrainian conducting and choral school, the growth of choral art and education’s spiritual and formative influence on the society, the accumulation of the main features of the phenomenon. The second period (1910s - 2020s) is characterized by the intensification of creative pedagogical achievements of choral culture and pedagogy, aimed at maintaining the stability of institutional, creative and personal, performing and pedagogical school dimensions. This period is also marked by a search for a unified system of standards, socio-cultural effectiveness of choral tradition, as a factor of national consolidation, openness to the European experience.
The historical aspect of the establishment of the national model of conducting and choral education in Ukraine in the 20th - early 21st centuries is presented at four levels: preschool and out-of-school educational institutions, educational institutions of general music and primary specialized music education, pedagogical and music schools (colleges), establishments of higher pedagogical and music education. The tendencies of the historical evolution of the conducting and choral school in Ukraine in the 20th - early 21st centuries, which are determined by the general progress of culture, art and education in this historical period of development of the phenomenon, are highlighted. The tendencies of professionalization, axiologization, psychologization and pedagogization, changes in the sociocultural functioning of schools (national unification, Ukrainization, regionalization, Europeanization, globalization) are determined.
The theory and practice of Lviv, Odessa, Kyiv and Kharkiv conducting and choral schools in the 20th - early 21st centuries are taken into consideration. The comparative analysis of regional conducting and choral schools functioning is carried out, the model of formation of national conducting and choral school in Ukraine in the 20th - early 21st centuries is designed and prospects for its development are identified.
