The purpose of the study is to determine the educational and intellectual level and spiritual values of the Ukrainian Orthodox hierarchy of the early modern times. The object of research is the Ukrainian Orthodox hierarchy in the context of spiritual, religious, cultural, educational and socio-political processes in early modern Ukraine and the Russian Empire. The subject of research is the peculiarities of the intellectual and spiritual dimensions of the Ukrainian Orthodox hierarchy of early modern times. The main scientific results of the dissertation research, which have a scientific novelty, are as follows: On the basis of integrated analysis of the published and newly discovered archive materials the activity of Ukrainian Orthodox archiereuses of the Early modern period in the intellectual and spiritual dimensions was exposed for the first time. It has been established that educational and intellectual level of the Ukrainian archiereuses of the Early modern period met high European criteria. A system of education and particulars of teaching of subject matters in Kyiv Academy served as a platform to formation of future Ukrainian archiereuses as highly educated elite of that time. Education in the European educational institutions directed to a new type of worldview and significantly contributed to intellectual improvement of future archiereuses. Teaching activity and preaching were leading fields of realization of intellectual potential to bishopric cheirotonia. Analysis of library registers of the Ukrainian archiereuses convincingly witnesses that regardless of existence of liturgical books in Slavonic, much of their mass comprised books in Polish and Latin mainly of Western European and Polish Catholic authors. The content of libraries reflected creative interests and needs of their owners, first of all as writers and translators. The motivation of choosing a field of spiritual service by future hierarchs, their personal vision of their bishopric calling are revealed. The documentary-based historical and philosophical reconstruction of spiritual world of the Ukrainian hierarchs outlined the program of their archpastoral activity and the system of value priorities. The main worldview philosophical orienting points of the Ukrainian hierarchs were based on orientation on perfect personality and were interpreted by them according to belonging to «research and educational» or «ethic and anthroposophic» worldview directions. The Doctrine of the Intellect was an important work of archiereuses. It has been established that a sermon was one of the most important fields of realization of intellectual potential of the Ukrainian church elite. The Ukrainian archiereuses created and developed on the Ukrainian, Belorussian and Russian territories the school of church preaching that in the process of its evolution had determined main directions of public speaking of the Early modern period. The missionary activity of the Ukrainian hierarchs as the heads of the embassies among peoples of Syberia, Volga territory, Kamchatka and also Mongolia and China was of a massive nature. Archiereuses from Kyiv Scholastics began missionary work in the Russian Empire, realizing the program of Peter to convert to Christian faith and to make numerous people of colonized lands true believers. The Ukrainian missionaries acted in strenuous conditions of animosity of indigenous population, shortage of personnel and funds, at the same time have made efforts for fully-fledged activity of missions, development of schoolboyish behavior, created projects of church and educational centers for the newly converted people. The activity of the Ukrainian archiereuses served as factor of consolidation of the Ukrainian people that gained special weight during incapability of national elite in the conditions of the Russian centralism. It has been established that on the territories of the spiritual service in composition of hierarchy of the Russian Orthodox Church since Peter I the representatives of the Ukrainian church elite were the holders of the Western European civilization. It has been established that creative heritage of the Ukrainian Orthodox hierarchs demonstrates a diversity of their interests that was manifested in different by volume, genre and themes works. Their authors went far beyond their spiritual order.
