Essay

The dissertation is devoted to a thorough study of the institutional and functional dimensions of international non-governmental organizations in the field of peace and security. The state of study of the topic and the source base of research on the functioning of international non-governmental organizations and their activities aimed at achieving peace and security are revealed. The conceptual and theoretical foundations and methodological tools for identifying the role of international non-governmental organizations in maintaining peace and security in the international system are analyzed. The essence and specifics of international non-governmental organizations are revealed, the criteria for their classification are defined; on this basis peacekeeping and security non-governmental organizations are systematized. The institutional specifics of peacekeeping and security international non-governmental organizations and on this basis identifies the institutional mechanism for their effective functioning have been analyzed; and the security interaction of international non-governmental organizations with other international actors to ensure peace and security have been highlighted. The last chapter examines the functional dimension of these institutions by defining functions and forms of activity of international non-governmental organizations in resolving modern international conflicts and preventing their occurrence; emphasis is placed on the advantages and disadvantages of involving international non-governmental organizations in solving peacekeeping and security problems in Ukraine, and recommendations for improving their effectiveness in resolving the military conflict in eastern Ukraine are proposed. The special role of international non-governmental organizations in achieving peace and security, preventing and resolving conflicts at the interstate and domestic levels is emphasized. It is noted that from the institutional and functional point of view, the activity of such international actors is important for solving security problems, in particular for achieving lasting peace and restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
