Essay

The dissertation outlines the essence of the phenomenon of multilingualism, describes its classification and place in the system of state language policy in different countries, in particular analyzes numerous scientific works of scientists on the concept of multilingualism in philosophy, linguistics, political science, public administration. The formation of scientific development of language policy in Ukraine is studied and it is proved that the linguistic background in Ukraine and the process of creating a state language policy should be considered through the prism of the phenomenon of multilingualism, we are to take into account not only domestic language issues but also Ukraine’s integration processes into the world, intertwining internal and external factors in order to make an effective language picture. The study proves the need to develop a strategy of multilingualism that would satisfy the society in the field of state language policy and reflect the real state of affairs on language issues in modern Ukraine, based on the analysis of the legal aspect of state language policy in Ukraine and various opinion polls on language issues.
