Essay

The dissertation is devoted to comprehension of correlation peculiarities of aesthetic conscience: verbal and visual, icon painting and literature in the culture of Ukraine in the 16th-18th centuries. On the examples of polemic literature the evolution of philosophy, art and aesthetic foundations of the Ukrainian icon painting is traced. The Ukrainian iconography canon of Baroque is considered as a mediator between a religious literature (canonical and apocryphal Gospels) and painting (icon). Much attention is paid to aesthetic aspects of cooperation of liturgy's verbal and visual sides. The liturgy's symbolism is investigated as a sacral-aesthetic phenomena. The author analyzes it's meaning and importance for the Ukrainian community of the 16th-18th centuries. Iconostasis is shown as figurative expression of liturgy as well as the whole Orthodox art and religion, which through the ties with Divine becomes not only aesthetically but theologically comprehensive. The issue of sacral word and sacral imag e interaction in liturgy is also examined.
