The object of research is the motivation for mastering a foreign language by pupils of the 7th - 9th forms. The subject is the process of formation of motives for mastering a foreign language by pupils of the 7th - 9th forms. The aim of research is to find out and experimentally check the totality of psychological and pedagogical conditions for the effective formation of positive motives for mastering a foreign language by pupils of the 7th - 9th forms. The methods are diagnostically, observative and proximetric. The scientific novation is in determination of essence, content and structure of motives for mastering a foreign language; in finding out the levels of formation of motives for mastering a foreign language, their characteristic; in determination of the main contentive and structural components, pedagogical principals of the formation of motives for mastering a foreign language by pupils of the 7th - 9th forms. The sphere of usage is in secodaries schools and high pedagogical colleges.
