The dissertation focuses on the consistent analysis of the problem of bringing-up an individual and a group in reformatory pedagogy (the end of the XIX century - the first third of the XX century). In the dissertation sociocultural and pedagogical premises of the origin of reformatory movement in developed countries of Europe and the USA are studied. Specific character of the spread of advanced ideas in reformatory pedagogy of Ukraine is outlined. It was ascertained that the relevant ideas of reformatory pedagogy with respect to the problem of bringing-up an individual and a group were: refusing authoritative methods of educational governing bodies; acknowledging the idea, that the comprehensive development of an individual should become the aim of teaching and educational process; forming value attitude to the child's individuality; group and collective upbringing; developing theoretical basis for cooperative pedagogy. The evolution stages of the problem of bringing-up an individual and a group in reformatory pedagogy (the end of the XIX century - the first third of the XX century) were studied in the dissertation. The distinctive feature of Ukrainian scholars' approach to the current problematics consisted in combining pedocentric ideas, characteristic of the free education theory, with the ideas of bringing up an individual in a group with the purpose of his/her most efficient socialization as a future society member.
