Essay

This thesis presents a cognitive-discourse approach towards language units functioning. It outlines the ways of building composite cognitive models specific for French derivation considering of possible metaphoric transfers. Compound word models were created on the basis of operations in frame slots, namely: recombination, elimination, addition of slots or information, redistribution of accents in a scenario, combining parallel frames as well as their integration. A composite frame model with a metaphoric meaning was built by rendering non-characteristic or contrary conceptual information in slots, that leads to cognitive strain and metaphor.
