Essay

The paper focuses on the investigation of contemporary comics' texts that are characterized by syncretism of verbal and iconic components which create a joint message to the reader. The attempt is made to determine the main linguistic peculiarities of the textual fragments of comic strips: their structure, semantics, stylistics, syntax. The methodological tools used in this paper are the ones of observation and description, contextual and structural analysis, component and quantitative methods for the detailed investigation of linguistic and functional features of comics' text.
