Essay

Object – the process of teaching in primary schools of People’s Republic of China (1949- 2017); aim – to systematize theoretical ideas on teaching foreign languages to primary school pupils in People’s Republic of China and generalize the practice of teaching foreign languages to primary school pupils in order to single out pedagogically valuable ideas and use them in primary schools in Ukraine; methods – general scientific, historical, empirical, comparative; novelty – the dissertation is the first to provide scientific analysis of the stages and tendencies in the study of the problem of teaching foreign languages to primary school pupils in schools of People’s Republic of China during the period under research; the ideas of Chinese scholars and educators on the goal and objectives of teaching English to primary school pupils, the specific nature of the English language as a foreign language acquisition by the Chinese pupils are systematized; the practical aspects of organization of teaching and learning of foreign languages in primary schools of People’s Republic of China are analysed; the system of general education and types of primary schools in the People’s Republic of China are characterized; the plans and programmes of teaching foreign languages to primary school pupils are considered; the peculiarities in the use of teaching methods both those that are widely used in the schools abroad and those that are specific to Chinese primary schools are determined, the teaching aids and methods of control in foreign language teaching are studied; the study of the genesis of ideas of teaching foreign languages to primary school pupils in the world-wide pedagogical research is carried out. The new pedagogical sources in Chinese (45) and in English (99), factual data and pedagogical ideas on the researched problem are suggested for the scientific analysis; results – the theoretical ideas and conclusions of the research form the basis for further comparative studies of the theory and practice of organization of teaching and education in the institutions of general education in Ukraine and abroad. The data and conclusions of the research were used for working out the teaching course “The problem of foreign language education in present-day primary school of the People’s Republic of China”. The scientific data of the research can be used while teaching “Pedagogy”, “History of Pedagogy”, “Comparative Pedagogy”, “Pedagogical Skills”; while teaching specific teaching courses and at seminars for Bachelor and Master degree students at pedagogical institutions of higher education; while writing textbooks, teaching manuals and recommendations; field – pedagogy.
