The thesis presents a new approach to solving the problem of multicultural education of school students in the system of activities of the general educational institution, which consists in substantiating theoretical and methodological principles of formation of school students' multicultural competence, working out and verifying experimentally the structural-functional model and methodological support of this process.The content of multicultural education is clarified as a complex pedagogical process . The system of activities of secondary schools in the context of multicultural education has been characterized.The structure of multicultural competence of school students has been distinguished. The criteria (cultural and cognitive, tolerant and value, communicative and behavioral) and the relevant indices of multicultural competence have been determined.The methods of multicultural education have been worked out and the peculiarities of introducing it depending on the type of educational environments have been described.
